I absolutely love the Olympics! While I enjoy all of the Olympic sports, my favorite sports to watch are the track and field events. In my opinion, the 100-meter race is the highlight of track and field. Over the years, I have watched the best athletes in the world compete for gold.
In addition to watching the track and field events, I really enjoy the background stories on the athletes. I am amazed by how much they sacrifice to become great at what they do. Many of the athletes give up friends, change schools, and some even move away from family to train and perfect their skills.
After years of training, the big moment arrives. Who will be crowned the fastest in the world? The athletes line up on the track for their event. All eyes are focused on the runners. For the next ten seconds, everything around me fades into the background as I wait for the winner to cross the finish line.
Years of preparation and training for a ten-second race. The winner walk’s away with the gold medal, but what about the other runners? Was the sacrifice worth it? Absolutely! While the athletes all want to win, their goal is to the best that they can be.
While you may not be an elite athlete, I know you have a desire to be the best that you can be. So, how can you become great at what you do? Dr. Benjamin Hardy offers the following five tips to help you enhance your skills:
- Work on your self, not your job
- Find opportunities to move out of your comfort zone
- Create new and innovated ways to improve
- Stay in love with the process
- Never lose sight of your why
So, next time you want to give up on your quest to become great at what you do, think about this:
“Work hard at your job, and you can make a living. Work hard on yourself, and you can make a fortune.”
Jim Rhone
To become great at what you do, never settle for being satisfied with what you did yesterday. It’s about continually improving every day.
Are you great at what you do?
