The Dominican Republic is a lush green country located on the island of Hispaniola. The Dominican Republic shares the island with its neighbor Haiti. The Dominican Republic is the second largest Caribbean nation and is the largest economy in the Caribbean.

Home to approximately 10 million people, the Dominican Republic is the most visited destination in the Caribbean. The diverse geographical environment, numerous golf courses, a rich history, and vibrant culture draws visitors from around the world.

During our vacation, my husband and I visited La Romana. Founded in 1897, La Romana is the seventh-largest city in the Dominican Republic. While the city was originally an oil town, tourism and cigars are the economic engines today.

When we arrived in La Romana, it was a beautiful tropical day. As my husband and I hurried to meet our tour group, a warm gentle breeze caressed my face as I gazed at the blue sky. The vibrant flowers looked like they belong on the cover of a magazine.

As we boarded our tour bus, we were warmly greeted by our guide, Deniesse. Born and raised in La Romana, Deniesse was excited to share the rich culture of her home.

While we waited for the rest of our group several individuals complained about mosquitoes on the bus.

Once we departed the port, Deniesse did her best to address the mosquito problem. She explained the challenges of living in a tropical environment. Well as you can imagine, the explanation was not very satisfying to some members of our group.

Once we arrived at our first stop, we were happy to get off the bus. We spent the next hour touring the home of the Toros del Este baseball team. Baseball is the national sport of the Dominican Republic.

At the end of our tour, we boarded the bus to travel to our next destination. Once we were on the bus, my husbanded noticed we were on a different bus. Deniesse arranged for the mosquito bus to be replaced with a new bus.

As the leader, you will face many problems. However, your job is to solve problems.

How you handle the daily challenges of leadership will determine your level of success.

So how will you address the daily challenges of leadership? Glenn Llopis offers four ways to help you increase your problem-solving effectiveness.

  1. Create a culture of open communication
  2. Break down silos to foster collaboration
  3. Hire and promote open-minded people
  4. Develop and implement a solid strategy

Like Deniesse, it is your responsibility to solve problems. To address the mosquito issue, Deniesse changed busses, which resulted in happy customers.
