Several years ago, I was told by one of my mentors, “The choices you make today will determine your future success.” Do you agree with that statement? I hope so because it is true. Here’s why…

The pandemic has required us to make significant adjustments to the way we live and work. Many of us found ourselves working remotely. Distance learning became the way of learning for students as schools closed. Telemedicine increased as doctors shifted to a remote treatment environment.

Like many others, my traditional office closed for five months. However, we still needed to close out the current school year and prepare for the upcoming school year. It was a very challenging time.

While we knew what we needed to do, we weren’t sure how effective our efforts would be. We were dealing with an educational crisis and there was a tremendous amount of uncertainty.

“Uncertainty is a leadership opportunity.”

– John Maxwell

While we weren’t sure how we would accomplish our goals, we chose to stay positive and make each day count. We met every day to work through a myriad of issues. Although it was difficult, we successfully completed the school year.

But wait, there’s more…

As soon as we completed the previous school year, we turned our attention to preparing for the next school year.

While we didn’t know what to expect, it didn’t change our goal to educate students. Through our daily planning efforts, we created innovative options for our students to meet their educational needs.

During a crisis, it is extremely important to stay focused on what is important, day by day. As a leader, you will face adversity. However, you must stay focused on the challenges presented by the crisis.

The choices you make today will determine your future success, as well as the success of others.

How much does today matter to you, and those you lead?
