The Power of Community

Are you experiencing the power of community? Recently, I had the pleasure to participate in an exceptional group. Now, I know you are thinking, “Kim, you lead groups all of the time, so why was this one special?”

Because I was not leading the group!

Typically, when I lead a group, I do not actively engage in discussions. My role is to facilitate the learning and allow the group to learn and grow through their journey together. I function as a guide to help them unwrap their gifts.

While I served as the group facilitator, I was also an active member of the group. I was so excited to be with like-minded individuals in a Change Your World Transformational Table.

So, you may be wondering what a Transformational Table is? It is a small group of individuals who want to make a difference in their sphere of influence.

The concept of the group is based on John Maxwell and Rob Hoskins’s book, Change Your World: How Anyone, Anywhere Can Make A Difference. Their goal is to inspire a movement by equipping individuals to be the change they want to see in their world.

According to Maxwell and Hoskins, “If you change your world, and you help others change their world, together we will begin to change the world.” So how can individuals become agents of change?

Maxwell developed the concept of Transformational Tables based on his transformational work in several countries. In partnership with his coaches from the John Maxwell Team, Maxwell leveraged the power of groups to help several governments transform their countries by equipping individuals to become transformational leaders.

Can small groups of individuals really change a country? Yes! How is that possible? Because the process is grounded in the power of small groups to effect change.

Small groups are not a new concept. They are based on the biblical concept of community. We were created to live in a community with each other.

“All believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.”

The Book of Acts, Chapter 4, verse 32

As a result, a small group not only changed their world but our world also!

Why are small groups powerful? Groups of individuals working towards a common goal are capable of achieving more incredible things than one person. Maxwell said, “One is too small a number to achieve greatness.”

When like-minded individuals come together, they create synergy, which multiplies their efforts. Not only does the group’s success increase, but the group members also grow as individuals.

Through the process of pursuing their goals, team members become a support system for each other and accountability partners. The increase in accountability serves as a check and balance for each member of the group.

Do you want to experience the power of community? Like the members of the early church, you can partner with others to achieve your goals. Start today by joining a group of like-minded individuals who will hold you accountable and help you grow.

Are you experiencing the power of community?
